Flower tattoo designs are one of the most popular natural subjects for tattoo art.  Flowers are colorful, beautiful and they offer individual symbolic meanings.  They can be portrayed as the elegant and graceful pieces of nature that they are all alone or paired up with virtually any design, symbol or word.

Flowers grow almost everywhere in the world, in some of the most extreme weather conditions.  They are known by all so it is no surprise that they have been used almost as long as tattoos have existed.  It is more than evident the fascination that the world has had with floral designs through the explicit showmanship on tattoos.

Hawaiian flowers are popular in tattoos because of their exotic beauty.  Many people will get them as a remembrance of what a fabulous and unforgettable time they had on the island.  Plumeria, hibiscus and orchids are among the most common picked.  Plumeria and orchids symbolize thoughtfulness, beauty, wisdom and love.  They are often combined with tribal and are almost always placed on the lower back or part of a full back piece.

For women that want to break away from traditional flowers, the lotus flower is a popular choice.  They are usually designed with brilliant color that makes them stand out and often enhanced with water, vines and symbols.  In the Hindu and Buddhist culture, the lotus represents a symbolic journey of an individual’s soul to enlightenment.  Today the lotus is a symbol of power, beauty, change, strength and the journey of the soul.

Japanese flower tattoo designs are widely used as well.  Sakura, or the cherry blossom is one of the most popular designs along with the azalea and plum blossom.
