Eagle tattoo designs have been worn, primarily by men in all countries and all cultures through history.  These birds are one of the oldest royal and powerful symbols.  Aside from their representation of strength and symbolic message of patriotism, they are just stunning and mysterious creatures.

Persian and Greeks believe that the eagle is sacred to the sun while the Egyptians worshiped this great bird under the name of Ahom.  It was Zeus’ sacred emblem, according to Greek mythology.

In other legends and  myths, the eagle was the official sun god and symbolized power, light, fire and water.  It represented courage and spiritual power and it was fearless.  However, if it was shown with a snake, it was a symbol of conflict. In Norse legend, eagles were associated with the god called Odin, representing light and wisdom while Aztec warriors believed that they were given their strength from this powerful bird.  Some cultures believed the eagle was the vegetation god while other cultures dressed their royalty in eagle feathers.

The eagle is the supreme ruler of air and remains one of the most popular adopted symbols of emperors, warriors and leaders on earth and in spiritual realms.  It is a symbol of superior strength and everlasting loyalty since this is a bird that mates for life.

Since 1782, the majestic Bald eagle has been the national emblem for the United States.  It is a striking bird that is only found in North America.  Eagle tattooing has been a popular pick for freedom lovers and for those in military for thousands of years.

In the 19th century, Emperor Charlemagne used a double-headed eagle emblem with one of the heads facing in the direction of the German empire and the other head facing the Holy Roman empire.  Also, John the Evangelist suggested that the eagle represented alertness and vigilance so the emblem was adopted by the Christian crusaders to symbolize a victory of the light over darkness or, good over evil.

In addition to the already mentioned symbols of the eagle, tattoo designs of this magnificent creature can mean a few other things as well.  Since eagles are known to live in high cliffs and trees and spend their time soaring at impressive heights above the ground, they also represent strength, independence and fearlessness.

Additionally, eagles have extremely sharp vision can can spot their prey up to two miles away so eagle tattoo designs can also represent that the wearer sees everything and misses nothing.
